4-H Council Minutes--May 2008

May 19, 2008

The Frontier County 4-H Council met May 19, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in Ag Hall. The meeting was called to order by the Youth President Johanna Nutt. Roll was taken and President Johanna Nutt, Sue Nutt, Hayley Meyers, Ethan Jones, Cindy Melvin, Turena Ehlers and Extension Educator Barb Scharf were present. Kalli Estes, the summer Extension Intern, was introduced as a guest for the meeting. The minutes of the March 17th meeting were read and a few corrections were made and approved.

Barb gave the financial report. The balance of the account was $1533.12. The MVES Field Day had a profit of $228.97. The MVES Field Day was successful and Barb thanked the chairwomen Sue and Cindy for their help.

It was brought to attention that there were eleven white 4-H Hats left that had originally sold for $15. Discussion was open to decide to either sell the hats or to give them away as prizes or awards at Achievement Night. Sue made a motion to put the hats on sale for $10 and what is not sold be used as gifts at Achievement Night. The motion was approved after some discussion. The sale of the hats will be mentioned in the monthly newsletter.

Unfinished Business

The Clover Challenge will be on May 20, 2008 at 5:00 in the computer lab on campus where seven people are to compete.

There was a small discussion about the web quiz and trying to get more participants. It was motioned and approved that the quiz would be available for whole clubs to complete at one time in the computer lab on campus and would be available online for individuals to complete as well.

The new communication project, being piloted in Frontier County, was discussed and can be completed as a whole club project.

New Business

Reminder of dates of workshops, day camps, and clinics was given.

There will be seven people attending the PASE Life Challenge in Lincoln from June 30 to July 1, 2008.

There were no seniors signed up for the Wildlife Habitat Contest, and it was decided that Frontier County would not be sending novices to the contest.

During the 4-H Calendar review, it was stated that the Livestock Quality Assurance training needed to be shortened.

As for other new business, the Chamber wants to use the Cotton Candy Machine for the 4th of July. Cindy will talk to her club about running the cotton candy machine for the event. If her club will not be able to do it, it was decided that the 4-H Council will run the machine for the event on the 4th of July. The price of the cotton candy was also a matter of discussion. It was motioned by Hayley to keep the cotton candy price at $0.50 and was seconded by Sue.

The next meeting is scheduled for July 7, 2008 and 7:30 p.m.

          Johanna Nutt adjourned the meeting.
